This is the Fourth of 6 career tips by Jenny Yerrick Martin. Check back each Wednesday to read them all.
Tip Number Four: Cast a Wide Net. When I am working with clients who are starting to look for a new job, I always tell them to activate their personal network. Compose a pitch about yourself and that perfect next job you are seeking – the more specific the better – and send it to everyone you know. Do not neglect anyone, even if you think it’s unlikely they will have any leads. You just never know who knows who. Be gracious about the leads you get that are “off-base,” but also be willing to pursue opportunities that come from unexpected places.
