Sunday is the launch of “Exchange a Bag”at the Mar Vista Farmers Market — and the beginning of an effort for the Farmers Market to be entirely plastic bag free by September 1.
In partnership with the Mar Vista Green Committee, the Mar Vista Farmers Market will kick off this community initiative by giving away 500 free reusable bags available under the Green Tent this Sunday, April 17th.
The Mar Vista Community Council was recently the first neighborhood in Los Angeles to call for a City-wide ban on single-use plastic bags, a leading source of toxic plastic pollution in our oceans and on our beaches. Californians use more than 120,000 tons of single-use plastic bags each year and yet only 5% are actually recycled.
Also, under the Green Tent this Sunday, Jeanne Kuntz will demonstrate how to transform a tank top into a reusable bag. Bring along an old tank top to be transformed!
The Mar Vista Farmers Market is open every Sunday rain or shine form 9am to 2pm at Grand View and Venice.
