Another hot day is on tap for Southern California on Friday in what is expected to be the close of this week's heat wave.

Forecasters predict temperatues to hit the 90s again in some valley and mountain areas, with the coast hitting the high 70s or low 80s. That's a bit cooler than Thursday's conditions, which set some new records.

Temperatures are supposed to start cooling further on Saturday.

On Thursday, the high in Riverside was 98 degrees, while Ojai in Ventura County hit 96 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

In Los Angeles County, the temperature topped out at 95 degrees in Chatsworth, 92 at UCLA and 93 in Pasadena.

Downtown Los Angeles near USC set a record for the day of 92 degrees, the weather service said. Long Beach reported a record of 89 degrees.

Along the Central Coast, San Luis Obispo also set a record of 88 degrees.
