Home tour: In Santa Monica, modern house soars with a heart of glass and skeleton of steel

From the front, you’d never know the balancing act that Giorgio Scali’s new Santa Monica house pulls off in back. The master suite hovering over Pepita, above, provides shade for the cozy backyard conversation area pictured below. At the heart of architect Victoria Casasco’s design is an open-plan living area, a beautiful glass box whose ceiling soars 23 feet.
