Discounted Fiesta Hermosa Carnival Rides for Locals

May 5, 2013 at 7:20 pm
hermosabeach.patch.com -

Smith and another girl take a ride in a mini helicopter at Fiesta Hermosa.

Hermosa Beach residents and local artists have until May 17 to take advantage of some special Fiesta Hermosa offers, according to the Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau. The Fiesta takes place May 25 through 27.

Residents can receive a discount on Fiesta Hermosa carnival ride tickets if purchased by May 17. Tickets, sold in books of 24, are available for $15, a 25 percent savings off the regular price, said Matt Bennett of the chamber.

Local Hermosa Beach-based artists will receive a 50% discount off the regular price of entry to encourage their participation. Fiesta Hermosa attracts thousands to downtown Hermosa Beach during the 3-day Memorial Day weekend event. It is billed as “Largest Arts & Crafts Fair in Southern California” and has been taking place since 1972.

Another perk for local chamber member restaurants is priority placement in this year’s Fiesta Hermosa Food Court, said Bennett.

Tradition rings true, too, as the chamber has once again selected 10 Hermosa Beach-based charitable organizations that will receive funding through their participation in serving at the Fiesta’s Charity Beer & Wine Garden. In 2012, more than $30,000 was raised to benefit local charities, he said.

Fiesta Hermosa, which features more than 400 artists and crafters, including painters, photographers, ceramicists, jewelers, sculptors, and handicrafters, is free to the public.

Discounted carnival ride tickets for residents (bring proof of your residency) are available through May 17th at the Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce office, 1007 Hermosa Ave., Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Moms To Ride Santa Monica Pier Ferris Wheel For Free This Mother’s Day

May 1, 2013 at 4:10 pm
www.smmirror.com -

The first 1,000 moms who visit the Ferris wheel at Pacific Park on the Santa Monica Pier this Mother’s Day will ride for free and receive a free family photo.
To redeem this special offer, a mother simply needs to go to the Pacific Park ticket booth adjacent to the Pacific Wheel entrance and notify the ticket booth personnel between 11 am and 9 pm on Sunday, May 12.
“A free ride on the Ferris wheel for moms is a picture perfect way to experience the beautiful 360-degree views of the Santa Monica coastline and Pacific Ocean,” said Jeff Klocke, Vice President of Marketing and Administration at Pacific Park on the Santa Monica Pier. “Pacific Park is set to provide an exciting photo finish to a great ride for mom on her special day.”
The Pacific Wheel is the world’s only solar-powered Ferris wheel featuring 160,000 energy-efficient LED lights that present dynamic, custom, computer-generated lighting entertainment each evening. The eco-friendly, enhanced LED lighting provides 75 percent greater energy savings than most Ferris wheel’s traditional incandescent bulbs.
The nine-story tall Pacific Wheel Ferris wheel, which stands 130 feet above the Pacific Ocean, first debuted in May 1996 with the opening of Pacific Park and was adapted as the world’s first solar-powered Ferris wheel in November 1998.
Pacific Park on the Santa Monica Pier, LA’s only admission free amusement park, offers 12 amusement rides, 17 midway games and an oceanfront food plaza.
In addition to the Pacific Wheel solar-powered Ferris wheel, Pacific Park’s signature rides include The West Coaster, a steel roller coaster that races 55 feet above the Santa Monica Bay; and Inkie’s Air Lift Balloon Ride, the high-flying, family-sharing kids’ ride.

Culver City Couple Wins Dream Wedding Worth About $100,000

January 25, 2013 at 2:27 pm
losangeles.cbslocal.com -

CULVER CITY (CBSLA.com) — A Culver City couple is expected to tie the knot on Valentine’s Day in what’s expected to be the ultimate dream wedding valued at nearly $100,000.

Andre Mercier and Sierra Dickens will say “I do” at Citi Pond at Bryant Park in New York City for free … all thanks to TheKnot.com.

Initially, the pair planned to put off their wedding for a-year-and-a-half due to financial concerns but Dickens checked out TheKnot.com and found a “Dream Wedding Sweepstakes.”

The pair made a video and won the wedding giveaway.

The catch?

CBS2′s Joy Benedict reports that the pair has not been able to choose any of the elements of their wedding. In fact, the public has been voting for a different element of their wedding each day.

Thus far, the rings, wedding theme and even Dickens’ dress have been picked.

Dickens was, however, able to narrow down her gown choices to four. She won’t know until the big day which gown the public chose.

“The weight that has been lifted off my shoulders because I don’t have to plan anything is just unbelievable,” Dickens said.

“We knew that we were gonna have to put our faith in the public and the public has definitely come through,” Mercier said.

Currently, the public is voting on Dickens’ hair and make-up. The bridesmaid dresses, cake and entertainment have yet to be chosen as well as the honeymoon — which they hope to turn into a charity trip.

“We would like to turn our honeymoon into a charity trip because we feel like so privileged,” Mercier said.
