City Tavern: A Mom’s Solution for an Empty Fridge

Big windows and skylights make the interior feel loft-like and open.

I’m constantly amazed by my child’s ability to find play equipment anywhere we go. After a too-short trip to Cleveland to visit the hubby’s relatives, we returned to Culver City with no groceries in the fridge. Now that would normally mean a trip to the grocery store, right?

Uh … no … for us it means a trip to one of the many restaurants in Downtown Culver City. Unfortunately, we missed this month’s Downtown Culver City Block Party by one day … bummer … so we decided to try out the new City Tavern located right next to the Kirk Douglas Theatre.

Not knowing anything about the layout of the place, I asked for a booth (my kid loves booths) and there happened to be one available since it was early in the evening. What I didn’t know is that there are beer taps at these booths. Beer taps! So cool. Don’t worry, my child didn’t even try to access the beer taps, but she did find much amusement in climbing in and out of the booth (and in and out, and in and out, etc.)

The staff members were super kid-friendly and the food was amazing. My son loved the fries. Hubby and I tried a couple of the beer choices and they didn’t disappoint. Thanks to City Tavern for providing a wonderful experience for parents who don’t want to leave the kid at home, but still want a nice dinner out, we’ll definitely be back.

Come back to Culver City Patch on Monday for a review of City Tavern by resident foodie Allison Arbuthnot.
